New Hong Kong Season Kicks Off
Sunday, 6 September 2026 at Sha Tin

The 2026/27 Hong Kong racing season will open at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday 6 September. Eighty-eight fixtures have been confirmed across Sha Tin and Happy Valley, with the curtain falling at Happy Valley on 14 July 2027.

Opening Day Feature: The HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup (1200m) has been elevated to Group 3 status with increased prize money of HK$4.2 million. It headlines the season-opening card at Sha Tin.

Prize money continues its upward trajectory. The Hong Kong Classic Mile and Classic Cup each rise by HK$1 million to HK$14 million, while the 150th Hong Kong Derby will carry HK$28 million — an 8% increase for the three-race Classic series.

Sha Tin will stage 49 meetings (including night and twilight fixtures), Happy Valley 39. The Jockey Club remains focused on attracting high-quality imports through enhanced incentives and a new Premier Series for Class 1–3 horses around the Derby period.

Full fixture list released. Sha Tin opens the season and hosts the majority of day meetings; Happy Valley continues its strong night-racing programme.

International Focus

LONGINES Hong Kong International Races remain the December highlight (13 Dec). World-class talent is expected to return as prize money and facilities stay competitive.

Derby Path Strengthened

A new Premier Series before and after the Derby aims to showcase high-rated horses and encourage further quality imports into the Hong Kong system.
